Woodward-Fab WFS-5 — 5" Throatless Hand Shear

  • 5" blade length — bigger working surface than the starter-frame throatless shears; full-length cuts on most sheet panels in a single pass.
  • 14-gauge mild steel, 18-gauge stainless — working capacity for sheet metal, restoration panels, brackets, and lighter production runs.
  • Geared-reduction handle — rack-and-pinion gearing amplifies operator leverage; cleaner cuts through heavier gauge with less effort.
  • Throatless design — no fixed C-frame in the way; cut paths and panel lengths are unlimited.
  • Heavy steel frame — holds the blade geometry true under repeated working loads.
  • Multi-material — cuts sheet metal and plastics with the same blade setup.
  • ~18 lb shipping weight — bench-mountable; ships UPS Ground.
  • Manual operation — no power, no air. Bolt down and cut.

Woodward-Fab WFS-5 Throatless Hand Shear — 5" Blade with Geared-Reduction Handle

The Woodward-Fab WFS-5 is a manual throatless hand shear with a 5" blade and a geared-reduction handle. Throatless means the cut waste clears off to the side — panel length and cut path aren't limited by the throat. The geared handle uses rack-and-pinion amplification to put operator leverage where the work needs it; cuts through 14-gauge mild steel come out cleanly with less effort than an ungeared lever shear.

The 14-gauge mild steel and 18-gauge stainless capacity covers the working end of most sheet metal jobs — patch panels, brackets, gussets, exhaust shields, restoration trim, lighter production runs. The 5" blade is a step up in working size from the smaller starter-frame throatless shears in the category, which makes it the right tool for longer panel work and for shops that want one shear set up for working volume rather than occasional cuts. If your shop is cutting 10-gauge or 3/16" plate regularly, step up to a heavier-duty unit; the WFS-5 is sized for the 14-ga end of the range.

~18 lb shipping weight, ships UPS Ground. Heavy steel frame, throatless design throughout. Manual operation — no power, no air, no compressor required. Same blade setup cuts sheet metal and plastics, so the WFS-5 doubles as a multi-material bench tool when the work calls for it.

A capable companion to a shrinker stretcher and an English wheel — rough-cut the blank on the WFS-5, then shape and finish on the wheel and shrinker. For long straight cuts where a fixed-blade tool fits the workflow better, Woodward-Fab also makes the SPHS series straight-blade throatless shears. For the full curved-blade category, see the throatless shears collection.
