Eastwood 11797 — 4" Throatless Shear

  • 4" tool-steel blade — handles patch panels, brackets, gussets, and intricate curved or irregular cuts.
  • 14-gauge mild steel, 14-gauge aluminum, 18-gauge stainless — the working capacity for most light-restoration and home-shop sheet work.
  • Throatless design — no fixed C-frame in the way, so panel length and cut path are unlimited.
  • Rack-and-pinion gearing with 17" handle — leverage does the work; one-handed cuts through 14-ga mild are comfortable.
  • Cast-iron body — holds the blade geometry true; three-hole base bolts to any sturdy bench.
  • Adjustable, replaceable blades — back the blade up as it wears, swap for Eastwood replacement set #20454 when due.
  • 21.5 lb shipping weight — easy to move between stations; ships UPS Ground.
  • Manual operation — no power, no air. Bolt it down and cut.

Eastwood 11797 Throatless Shear — 4" Cast-Iron Bench Shear for 14-Gauge Sheet Metal

The Eastwood 11797 is a manual throatless hand shear with a 4" tool-steel blade and a cast-iron body. Throatless means the cut waste clears off to the side — there's no fixed throat depth limiting how long a panel you can run through, or how tight a curve you can follow. Bolt it to a bench, work the 17" handle, and the rack-and-pinion gearing puts the leverage where you need it.

The 14-gauge mild steel, 14-gauge aluminum, and 18-gauge stainless capacity covers the working end of most restoration and small-shop sheet metal — patch panels, brackets, gussets, exhaust shields, hand-shaped trim pieces. The 4" blade is a lighter-duty frame than the larger throatless shears in the category; if you're cutting heavier plate or running a panel through every day, step up to a bigger unit. For occasional cuts, starter-shop work, or as a second shear dedicated to lighter material, the 11797 is the right size of tool at the right price.

21.5 lb shipping weight, ships UPS Ground. The cast-iron body sits on a three-hole base — bolt to a sturdy bench or to Eastwood's own tool stand. Tool-steel blades are adjustable for wear and replaceable when the time comes (Eastwood part #20454). Manual operation throughout: no power, no air, no compressor required.

A capable companion to a shrinker stretcher and an English wheel — rough-cut the blank on the 11797, then shape and finish on the wheel and shrinker. For the full category, see the throatless shears collection.
